Discover the Flavors of Korea Through City-Gun Regional Programs
Jamboree Scouts from around the world had an unforgettable experience as they fell in love with the spicy and flavorful K-Food during the Saemangeum World Jamboree. Participants from 10 countries, including Mongolia, Norway, Italy, and Colombia, gathered at the ‘Gochujang Ripening Village’ in Sunchang for a unique culinary adventure. The program aimed to showcase the delicious spiciness of Sunchang Gochujang, a famous Korean red pepper paste. Among the attendees was Governor Kim Kwan-young, who graced the event with his presence.
◇ Exploring the Flavors of Jeonbuk
The members of the Jamboree were introduced to the rich taste and culture of Jeonbuk through engaging activities. They got the chance to create traditional red pepper paste, make instant tteokbokki, and learn about the art of fermenting jars. The event turned out to be a delightful experience, with everyone enjoying the process of making and tasting their own tteokbokki in their unique styles.
◇ Embracing the Korean Spicy Taste
The participants were already familiar with the notion of spicy flavors in Korean cuisine. However, by preparing and savoring Tteokbokki on their own, they truly felt immersed in the essence of Korean culinary heritage. Many of them expressed their enthusiasm, saying, "I feel like a true Korean after making and eating Tteokbokki myself. Once the Jamboree concludes, I will return to my home country and share the wonderful taste of Korea with others." Governor Kim Kwan-young praised the efforts of the Sunchang-gun Office and village cooperatives in organizing a well-coordinated local linkage program that allows people to fully experience the authentic K-Food in Sunchang.
◇ The Journey Continues
The regional programs held during the 25th World Scout Jamboree in Saemangeum, Jeollabuk-do, commenced on August 2nd. These programs, hosted by local governments, cover a wide range of experiences, such as traditional culture, historical exploration, religious understanding, temple stays, and insights into future society. Running until August 10th, the program anticipates approximately 6,000 daily participants.
◇ Tips for a Safe Experience
Governor Kim Kwan-young reminded all participants to prioritize hygiene during the program, especially given the summer season. Ensuring a safe experience is essential for a successful and enjoyable event.
