Exploring the 2023 Tangerine and Citrus Art Exhibition in Seogwipo City

The "2023 Tangerine Exploration and Citrus Art Exhibition" is set to captivate Seogwipo City from November 1 to December 31. This event promises to be a celebration of Jeju's rich citrus culture, offering a unique opportunity to discover the artistic prowess of the region.

Under the creative direction of Lee Jin, a renowned sculptor and CEO of Laque Art Consulting, this year's exhibition features five emerging mid-career artists from diverse fields. The artists, including photographer Jeon Jae-ho, paper sculpture artist Eo Shin, painting artist Salbit, textile artist Hong Song-hee, and printmaker Nam Cheon-woo, will center their creations around the theme of Jeju's tangerines. Their work aims to provide a fresh perspective on art and creativity, not only for the local residents but also for the visitors.

In addition to the stunning artworks, a range of innovative art merchandise has been created using the artists' original creations. These unique pieces will be available for purchase, allowing art enthusiasts to take home a piece of Jeju's vibrant culture.

Adding a unique perspective to the event, two additional artists, Lee Ji-young and Choi Da-ye, participating in the Seogwipo Cultural City Center's Youth Culture Project, will present tangerine-related products inspired by their interviews with local citrus farmers. This promises to offer an intriguing and authentic viewpoint on the significance of tangerines in Jeju's culture.

Artist Lee Jin, the mastermind behind this exhibition, has a deep-rooted purpose. He explains, “Through the '2023 Tangerine Exploration and Citrus Art Exhibition,' I wanted to communicate the vitality of Jeju tangerines that have thrived in the challenging terrain of the southernmost tip of the Korean peninsula. It's an essential aspect of Jeju's vibrant culture, carrying with it the joys, sorrows, and emotions of the people of Jeju. We have endeavored to create a platform that resonates with the spirit of this remarkable fruit.”

The "2023 Tangerine Exploration and Citrus Art Exhibition" builds upon the success of the "Tangerine Search 2021 Special Exhibition" and last year's "2022 Citrus Art Festa." This year's exhibition aims to unveil the various cultural and artistic dimensions of Jeju tangerines. Through artistic experimentation and the development of art products, we aim to infuse the daily lives of our patrons with the essence of Jeju's culture and heritage.

Kang Gyeong-taek, the Culture, Tourism, and Sports Director of Seogwipo City, expressed his enthusiasm for the Citrus Museum's continued efforts to enrich the cultural and artistic landscape related to citrus. He also outlined plans to transform Seogwipo into a culturally vibrant and joyful city. The "2023 Tangerine Exploration and Citrus Art Exhibition" is at the forefront of this cultural revolution.

The "2023 Tangerine Exploration and Citrus Art Exhibition" is not just an event; it's a celebration of Jeju's rich cultural heritage and a testament to the artistic prowess of its residents.
